CR Knox

The Author

CR Knox, otherwise known as Colin, is a fully-qualified born and bred Scouser hailing from Liverpool who now resides in the sleepy suburb of Garston. Colin started writing some ideas for the Slice books 10 years ago. His beloved cat Willis was a huge inspiration for the books and sparked an idea to write adventures about the loveable cat. Rumour has it he already has more ideas for future Slice books under his hat! A huge Liverpool FC fan, Colin rarely misses a home game and loves his music with Rick Astley being his favourite.

Fun fact: Colin’s other passion is cooking (and eating!) and he has applied several times-unsuccessfully-to appear on Masterchef and Come Dine With Me.

Jo MacMichael

The Illustrator

Jo grew up approximately 18 miles East of Colin in a sunny town called Warrington. She picked up her first pencil aged 3 days old and hasn’t put it down since! After studying Advertising at The University of Central Lancashire, Jo went on to pursue a career in design and now works as a freelance graphic designer. Aside from the arty farty stuff, Jo is a Mum of two girls, loves spending time with her family, playing guitar and keeping fit..but not all at once.

Fun fact: Jo has had work feature on ITV’s Loose Women and BBC’s One Show!

How it all began

Colin and Jo have known each other for quite some time as Colin’s Dad and Jo’s Grandad were brothers which makes Jo’s Mum and Colin cousins. Over the years, there have been oodles of fun family parties in Liverpool and Warrington with all of the Knox clan and extended families. Scouse humour and silly antics were never too far away!

Colin first approached Jo about the idea for Slice books at a family party in 2018, thus followed lots of emails and messages. Babies, life and a pandemic got in the way of progress so it wasn’t until August 2021 that Jo and Colin finally got together with a bottle of fizzy pop and a head full of ideas.

Fast forward a few years and progress on the book really started to take shape in 23/24. The first draft copy arrived in March 2025 and the final version of the book was finally published in the summer of 2025 which was met with much joy from everyone involved.
